‘Gangs and Serious Youth Violence’ training session

Lewisham Safeguarding Children Board are offering a training session facilitated by the Crime Reduction Service to raise awareness of the issues involving young people and serious youth violence and gangs in the London borough of Lewisham.

This course will help attendees to identify and develop the key skills and techniques required to work with those involved in the aforementioned activity.

The course also aims to demystify media stereotypes as well as core beliefs surrounding gangs and serious youth violence.

 Objectives:

As a result of this course participants will be better able to:

  •  Understand what processes and interventions are in place to support practitioners
  •  Identify at the earliest stage possible whether a young person is involved in gangs and

        serious violence

  •  Make a quality referral to the Gangs Intervention Team
  •  Understand the reality of youth violence locally, whilst debunking media hype

Staff in all agencies working with children, young people and families

  •  Historical background to Serious Youth Violence
  •  Media Myth busting – why are young people involved?
  •  Local context
  • Intervention programmes
