Developed in 2008, Creative ESOL is an established model of practice (featured in the British Council publication Innovations in English language teaching for migrants and refugees) for newly arrived young migrants and refugees to develop their English language skills, confidence and integration through drama and the arts. Sessions are delivered by a qualified ESOL teacher and experienced drama practitioner. Projects with young people aged 4 – 18 years are currently taking place in primary and secondary schools in Southwark, Lambeth and Islington.

This training day is a beginner’s workshop where Rewrite will share their innovative practice on language learning through drama and the arts. The event is suitable for anyone involved in teaching or arts facilitation with young people or adults.

Outcomes:

  • An understanding of the organising principles behind the Creative ESOL model

  • A practical workshop experience providing a ‘toolbox’ of activities to teach language through drama, play and the arts

  • Greater confidence to implement aspects of the model appropriate to your context

The day will include time to discuss how you can apply the Creative ESOL principles to your teaching or arts facilitation practice and to think through individual lesson plans with our experienced Creative ESOL practitioners.

Date: Saturday 17th March, 10.30am – 4.30pm
