Sound Connections SEN Seminar

Empowering children and young people with Special Education Needs and Disabilities through music

Posted: 10/08/2013

Come and explore the latest advances in music-making in SEND settings at our autumn seminar. We’ll be giving you practical tools, advice and a wealth of inspiration for working with young people with special needs. We’ll be focusing on approaches that put young people at the heart of their own music-making, empowering them to be creative and achieve greater wellbeing.

This one-day seminar will feature presentations and workshops from leading musical experts in the field including:

  • Keynote speech by Nigel Osborne MBE, music professor and advisor to the charity War Child
  • Dr Adam Ockelford introducing the Sounds of Intent framework of musical development for children with learning difficulties
  • Ben Schogler of Skoog on the development and practical uses of this groundbreaking device
  • Tina Pinder of Kimnara Music presenting on youth-led music-making with autistic young people
  • Live performance by H.BAM!, a band founded at Huddlestone Centre, Hackney which is led by young people with autism

The afternoon will conclude with an interactive panel discussion, chaired by Gawain Hewitt (Drake Music, Trinity Laban, Serious) inviting the audience to discuss and debate the big issues of the day.
