Lewisham Live 2017 starts with 'Creative Collective'

Lewisham Live 2017, a festival celebrating young peoples talents in music and dance, officially starts next week with open rehearsals and showcases at the newly opened Tate Exchange.

Lewisham Live is made up of a selection of music, dance and collaborative performances by young people from the borough - some of whom have been mentored by professional choreographers and composers, and others who are getting the chance to perform in renowned venues for the very first time.

Creative Collective a project led by Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, provides an opportunity for alumni students and more experienced performers to take steps into professional choreography and music composition.

Although participants are mentored by leading professionals in their fields, this project pushes them to work more independently – improvising collaborations, gathering feedback and developing works which are as likely to be performed in a black box theatre, as they are to be showcased in an unusual venue, outside space or hidden alcove.

A showcase of works-in-progress from the Creative Collective project will make up one event in the new Tate Exchange space. Within the Tate Modern, Tate Exchange is a new space focused on collaboration, testing ideas, and actively interacting with audiences in new ways.

The public are invited to come along to open rehearsals on the 14th & 15th February (12-6pm) and to attend a sharing of work with the opportunity to provide feedback on Friday 17th February at 6pm.
