Building on our reputations as homes and seeding ground for creative development in the performing arts, the Albany and Stratford Circus Arts Centre, in partnership with LikeMinds,
are commissioning new international work with emerging artists from
London and Amsterdam. Our shared ambition is to connect with and give
voice to individuals and to create work that is relevant and speaks to
our audiences. The project will give 4 multi-disciplinary emerging
artists a platform to respond to and reflect on the stories of the
people that live in the neighbourhood of the Albany or Stratford Circus
and to help create a new international co-production reflecting the
concerns of contemporary urban communities in this part of Europe.

The artists selected will work with other emerging artists from each
of the partner venues as well as an established artist mentor to support
the development of their work at their home venue. The group will
develop a show which stems from the stimulus of gathering stories of the
place they live, using a technique called the Decameron method which
involves working with journalist to develop techniques in gathering
stories. Training in the method will form part of the project timeline
as well as support from journalists and established artist mentors.

 What are we looking for?

The Albany and Stratford Circus are each looking for 2 emerging
artists (age 18-30) to be part of a year-long international commission

We are looking for artists who either live or have a connection to
Deptford/ Lewisham / South East London or Newham / East London and who
are looking for an opportunity to develop new work collaboratively. We

artists and for whom this support from the Albany and Stratford Circus
would make a real difference.

The artists chosen will have a responsibility for publicising the
show with the support of the marketing team at the Albany and Stratford
Circus Arts Centre as well as working with the Creative teams to secure
additional funding for the show.

Each artist will receive:

  • A £2,000 fee

  • Rehearsal space at the Albany & Stratford Circus Arts Centre.
