Museum and Gallery Educator, Neysela da Silva-Reed returns to October Gallery with a workshop, inspired by the current exhibition of works by sculptor LR Vandy, designed to improve our teaching skills.

Date and time: 12 June, 6-8pm
Location: October Gallery, 24 Old Gloucester Street, WC1N 3AL
Cost: £8

This session will focus on object-based learning and will introduce seven key strands within Gallery Education.

The exhibition at October Gallery showcases the work of LR Vandy. It will include her current Hull series of sculptures in which she takes model boat hulls and transforms them into masks adorned with fishing floats, porcupine quills, and acupuncture needles. The hull forms allude to the transportation of commodities, the process of trade and movement, but as masks they represent a transformation of identity drawing upon the tradition of talisman, charms, or amulets.

The workshop is aimed at emerging museum and gallery professionals looking for a starter kit tools required for working within the gallery setting,as well as freelancers looking to expand their teaching experiences.

Participants will have the opportunity to explore activities invaluable toteaching within the contemporary art sector, learn about gallery safe materials and develop skills for managing visitors and spaces.

Refreshments will be provided.
