Through a programme of practical activities and
resources, the CCP will inform young people directly about the opportunities in
this world-leading sector through meaningful encounters with industry
professionals, online tools, training and support for teachers, parents,
guardians and careers professionals, support for employers and more.

The programme has been kick-started with funding
from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and has been shaped
and supported directly by creative businesses, institutions, trade bodies and
individuals across England. Together, they will ensure that careers in the
creative economy are more accessible to a wider range of people and that they
maximise the creative talent of the next generation.

Current activities include:

  • Discover! Creative Careers Week, a brand-new
England-wide open doors week taking place 18 – 22 November which will see
over 450 employers welcome over 30,000 students into their organisations
to introduce them to the workplace through various activities including
interactive talks programmes, workshops and tours. They’re also supporting
the delivery of similar, year-round events.
  • Working with Speakers For Schools they’ve signed up over 150 new senior sector leaders from across the
creative industries who have so far given over 250 talks to more than
33,000 students. They’ve also supported over 60 creative organisations to
sign up to host dedicated work experience opportunities with bespoke
    support from S4SNextGen.
  • They’re working with the Careers and Enterprise
Company (CEC) to encourage leaders from across the creative industries to
    become enterprise
    advisers
for their local schools. We’re also providing
regional training for the CEC’s Enterprise Coordinators that will help
broaden their understanding about the creative industries and the range of
occupations that exist, so they can fully support schools to develop their
    career plans.
  • We’ve initiated the development of best
practice approaches to recruitment for employers to help them better
understand the steps they could be taking to attract a more diverse range
    of talent into the sector.
