Proposals for visual artists to run Youth Artists Programme at ACAVA

ACAVA is looking for proposals from professional visual artists to run this year’s Young Artists Programme. The Young Artists Programme encourages participants to develop their ideas playfully as well as enhance their critical thinking and problem-solving skills whilst offering a deeper understanding of visual art practice.

Deadline: 6th October 2020

ACAVA’s Young Artists Programme (YAP) is a weekly term-time programme for 7 to 11 year olds delivered over the course of the school year. Each term, a small cohort of young people co-create with a visiting professional artist and explore what art is and can be, by experimenting with new materials and processes.

YAP is supported by the Grenfell Projects Fund, a funding stream from Kensington and Chelsea Council, focused on enhancing lives of those impacted by the Grenfell Tower fire.

ACAVA is looking for proposals from professional visual artists to run this year’s YAP programme. They strongly encourage applications from artists of BAME heritage, and are particularly interested in practitioners with a socially-engaged art practice; who have experience in working with children and families from diverse backgrounds; who enjoy working collaboratively to co-design programmes of work.

They are interested to hear how you would bring your own practice and modes of art-making to the project. Your awareness of the Arts Award Discover programme is desirable but not essential, and due to the current pandemic, it will be useful if applicants have experience in delivering workshops online via Zoom or a similar application.

The project will culminate in a curated exhibition in November 2021, which we expect the appointed artists to be involved with by possibly showing a piece of their own work alongside the children's work.
