Go&See visit to a Mud Kitchen

Project Type:

Lewisham teachers, an educator from a local cultural organisation and early years practitioners enjoyed a visit to the Mud Kitchen at Limelight Family Learning Centre, Goldsmiths Community Centre.

The group were able to informally observe the session in action, see the children playing individually and with adults, experimenting with mud painting, enjoying pouring activities,  making mud cakes, pancakes and other tasty mud treats. Weighing out mud, tea and herbs to add to the concoctions all outside in the March weather. People were able to see you don’t need a large space, and that the activity is possible with cheap, reused materials (e.g. old pans, microwaves) and were discussing how to implement it in their settings. Jan Coleman kindly talked through what the activity involved and recommended Making a Mud Kitchen by Jan White to read.
