Talking Textiles

Viewing and discussion at the Goldsmiths Textile Collection- teachers and educators welcome

Date: 26/04/2024 – 26/04/2024

Time:13:00

Talking Textiles is a once
monthly lunch time get-together and the next session takes place during half term .

A small selection of textiles from the
Goldsmiths Textile Collection is available for viewing and discussion at the Constance Howard Gallery.
For those keen to be involved further, there is the opportunity to research a
chosen textile and to share findings or questions at the following session.

The
Goldsmiths Textile Collection includes
works by Goldsmiths alumni and other textile artists, collections of teaching
samples, dress and  textiles from around the world and print and archival
materials relating to textiles.
There is also
a reference library holding an extensive
collection of rare pamphlets and exhibition catalogues, as well as books and
journals on textiles.  At each Talking Textiles session, a different range
of items from the collection is selected to represent its diversity and to
promote discussion.
After the viewing, there is a chance to share your own
textile projects and chat with other textiles enthusiasts over tea and coffee. The
event is open to the public, as well as Goldsmiths students, staff and alumni and
is an opportunity to foster relationships and share knowledge across disciplines
and between different communities interested in textiles.

Talking
Textiles
will be of interest to teachers and  educators as an
introduction to the Goldsmiths Textile Collection as a resource for
teaching. They will get an overview of what the
collection holds and experience how it can be used to
promote discussion and learning, as well as having the opportunity to
meet other creatives and educators.

"Just to say a huge thanks ... I am looking forward to progressing with this project thanks to your support, advice and guidance"
